Everyone loves a camp fire especially when camping in the winter months. One problem with camp fires is that they need wood and lots of it. You can be kind of stuck if you happen upon a crowded camp site and the wood has already been scavenged by early arrivals. Fortunately you have a backup solution if you take a portable propane fire pit along with you on every trip. Nothing beats the crackle of a wood fire but if you need heat for cooking and keeping warm then an outdoor fire pit is the next best solution.
Propane fire pits come with many advantages over the traditional camp fire. First and foremost is that a
propane fire pit doesn't require wood which can be a huge advantage when you happen to visit a very busy camp site which has been stripped bare of any useable wood. With a good sized propane tank you will get many hours of use out of a single refill. Propane tanks are also much easier to transport than fire wood.
Propane fire pits also don't produce any sparks so there is less chance of causing a fire. There's no smoke so you won't have to migrate around the fire at every change in the wind. As well as missing out on smoke you also won't get any ashes. Less work means more fun which is always a good thing. Very easy and convenient. The fact that there is no smoke also makes fire pits perfect for the backyard cook out as you won't be annoying the neighbors with a wood fire and your guests won't be going home stinking like a forest fire.
You will need to be aware of a few things when choosing your model. Some models don't come with hoses or fittings. If you are buying online make sure you know what's in the box. If you need to buy fittings separately make sure you note the size your model needs. Make sure your hose is a sufficient length to get your propane gas bottle away from the flames. It's also out of the way of getting knocked over from people standing around the fire.
You may also like to take note of the heat output rating as not all fire pits are created equal. You will be using it to provide warmth so you want to make sure you are getting enough heat for everyone. A BTU rating of at least 60,000 should be sufficient for most peoples purposes. You will also want to make sure you check the efficiency rating of the fire pit as well. The more efficient the better as even though propane is cheaper than firewood you still don't want to be using more than you need.
